Digital Signage Systems offer an alternative to static backlit displays and billboards, enabling you to tailor your advertising to a specific audience. The benefits of Digital Signage Systems are its ability to be updated easily and target your demographics at selected times over a 24 hours, seven days a week, 365 days a year schedule. Digital Signage Systems also fit the needs for menu boards, interactive directories, flight, bus and train schedules.
Jan-Tronics offers complete digital signage systems that include all hardware and software needed for a truly dynamic multimedia presentation. We can structure a package to your individual needs that offers a complete turn-key solution for a single screen application up to thousands of screens, on a wide area network or through satellite links.
Our software allows you to manage, design, schedule and view presentations on a wide range of display devices, such as VGA monitors, plasma panels, LCD monitors, projection cubes and TV's.
The designer portion of this package lets you set-up a screen presentation by either importing content to the design window, or directly entering information into the design window. These formats can be in the form of video AVI's, multimedia, standard text, JPEG pictures, etc.
The scheduler portion enables you to set-up a schedule over a 24 hour, seven days a week, 365 days a year period, allowing for multiple presentations to be displayed on the same viewer screen at different times through the day, or different days of the week, to meet your demographic requirements. Content can be scheduled to play across the office, or across the country, on one screen or multiple screens simultaneously. Content can be different on each of the screens.
The viewer software resides on the PC of the screen on which the presentation is shown. It communicates to the manager via network, Internet or satellite, and requires no further intervention once schedules are created and sent to viewer. Each of the viewer screens is identified by its own address, allowing you to tailor your content for the specific viewer location.

PADS (Public Area Display System) is a software package for designing, presenting and managing multimedia presentations on (large screen) CRT Monitors, TVs, Plasma Displays, Liquid Crystal Displays, LEDs, or any other display devices. PADS can be used at airports, bus stations, railway stations, in hospitals, universities, government buildings, retail and supermarket chains, as well as in all other areas where information has to be visually available to the public. This overview will inform you about the technical details of the PADS system.
Software
The PADS software consists of several components that can be installed on one or separate computers:
PADS Manager
PADS Database / Server
PADS Viewer
PADS Manager Software
The PADS Manager software consists of
the PADS Designer and the PADS Schedule Manager application.
The PADS Designer application is a powerful editor used to design presentations. The contents of a presentation can vary from simple text and pictures (e.g. logos), to complex presentations containing web pages or complete multimedia presentations with videos and the use of macromedia flash.
An important feature of the PADS Designer application is the database connection. The database connection allows you to connect a page of a presentation to your corporate database or any other database. In this way you can display real-time data on your displays.
The PADS Schedule Manager application can be used to schedule the playing of designed presentations. Presentations can be scheduled for a
specific period of time, on a specific display device or group of display devices.
The schedule, as well as the design of a presentation, can be adjusted at any time.
PADS Database / Server
The PADS Database / Server application consists of the PADS Database, the PADS Server software (Layout Server, Data Server and Download
Server), the PADS Agent software, and the PADS License Wizard.
The PADS Database is the central storage of the PADS system. In this database all
information of the system is stored, varying from a list of the existing PADS Viewers to information about the scheduled presentations.
The PADS Server software controls the retrieval and distribution of presentations
and 'real-time' information from external databases.
The PADS Layout Server manages the actual scheduling of presentations and the
distribution of the presentations to the Viewers. If a presentation contains a
database connection, the PADS Data Server provides the Viewer with real-time
data. Finally, if a presentation requires additional files (like pictures or videos), the PADS Download server handles the downloading process of these files from the central server to the Viewers.
The PADS Server software - as you will read below under 'Configuration' - is
optional on small systems. If you don't use the PADS Server software every Viewer
will access the PADS Database directly.
The PADS Agent software is an application that can be used by the system
administrator to check how the system is functioning. It provides information about the Viewer connections and the currently displayed presentations and real-time data.
Finally, the PADS License Wizard is a wizard that can be used to install/upgrade
a product key, reflecting the number of licenses that is required to run the system.
PADS Viewer
The PADS Viewer software controls the process of retrieving presentations from the PADS Database/Server and displaying
these presentations on the connected display device.
Configuration
The first step is to develop the configuration you want to use. You have to decide which software components you want to install and where. This in turn determines the required hardware and how the system will operate.
As already has been mentioned above, PADS consists of 3 main components:
PADS Manager, PADS Database/Server and PADS Viewer. All these components
can be installed on different PCs. However, you may also choose to combine several (or even all) components on only one pc.
Each configuration has a number of specific advantages and disadvantages that you should be aware of when you select a certain configuration. These advantages and disadvantages will be discussed below.
PADS Manager
The PADS Manager software must be installed on the PC you want to use to create, schedule, and manage presentations. This PC must have either direct, or network access to the location where the PADS Database/Server software is installed.
The operating system for the PADS Manager PC can be Windows 95/98/ME, Windows NT, Windows 2000 or Windows XP.
The PC on which the PADS Database/Server software is installed can also be used as Manager pc. Of course, this raises the system load on this pc. Also, if this PC is going to be used for other unrelated applications as well as PADS,there is an increased opportunity for problems that will have a direct effect on the entire PADS system. For this reason this combination is not recommended in situations where PADS Manager PC will be used intensively.
It is possible to use a Viewer PC as Manager PC and create a single PC system. However, combining PADS Manager and PADS Viewer on one single PC has the practical restriction that you can only run one application at a time, either viewer or manager. While you are using PADS Manager, the window of PADS Viewer will not be visible. Aside from cost, another advantage is that references to pictures, videos and database connections created in PADS Designer are also automatically valid for PADS Viewer.
